Testimonial - Christina S.

Thirteen years ago, I walked into Club 12 broken, ashamed, and afraid. I was a stay-at-home mom battling alcoholism, facing a pending divorce, and watching my relationships with my children and family unravel. I had a DWI and a possession charge, and my teaching license—something I had worked so hard for—was in jeopardy. Depression consumed me. I felt hopeless and isolated, unsure if I could rebuild the life I had so carelessly destroyed.

Club 12 became the turning point.

What I found there was more than a meeting space—it was a safe haven. The Club offered structure when my life was chaotic. It gave me a place to go every day where sobriety was the norm, not the exception. Through community service opportunities, I rediscovered purpose. By showing up and being of service, I slowly rebuilt my self-worth.

Most importantly, I found relationships. Members welcomed me when I could not yet welcome myself. Mentors guided me through the 12 Step recovery program and modeled what long-term sobriety looked like. The consistent availability of 12 Step meetings gave me accountability, hope, and a blueprint for living differently. In those rooms, I learned how to take responsibility, make amends, and repair the damage my addiction had caused.

Today, my life is a testament to what recovery—and a place like Club 12—can make possible. I am a master’s-level social worker, employed and serving others who struggle with substance use and mental health challenges. My relationships with my children and family have been restored. Trust has been rebuilt. I am sober 13 years and counting.

Club 12 didn’t just help me stop drinking—it helped me reclaim my identity, my integrity, and my future. It gave me community when I was alone, purpose when I was lost, and hope when I had none.

Because of Club 12, my story did not end in tragedy. It became a story of restoration.
